Operational Notice
Temporary Closure of Southampton Woodland
Published: 2 July 2003
Public access to the eastern Southampton woodland remains suspended following damage to environmental monitoring equipment.
Department personnel discovered several damaged acoustic sensors and wildlife cameras during a routine inspection.
No evidence of deliberate human interference has been confirmed.
Survey teams have also reported unexplained whistles, movement beyond marked paths and distress calls originating from deeper sections of the woodland.
Visitors must not investigate calls for assistance originating beyond Department barriers. All authorised search personnel will wear visible identification and remain within designated teams.
